Dealing With Men's Hair Loss
For many men there is a fear of losing their hair. It seems to be a signal of old age or of a loss of vitality and youth. Many feel that it is less attractive, and mostly that it is just a negative change in their appearance, as with the first signs of wrinkles.
However, there are a number of things to remember when you start to worry about balding. Men's hair loss is a very common problem. By the age of thirty, twenty-five percent of all men start experiencing hair loss. By age sixty, that statistics are all the way at two-thirds of men dealing with hair loss.
The primary factor in men's hair loss, the progressive type known as male pattern baldness, is genetics. However, there are a number of other factors that can play a role in losing your hair.
Stress has long been thought to contribute to hair loss. This has been proven to be true. Stress will increase the rate at which you lose your hair, if it will not start the process altogether. Also, lack of exercise can allow your androgen levels (free testosterone) to stay high, which contributes to hair loss.
Reducing stress from your life is a good way to improve your overall health and lifestyle, while helping to prevent hair loss. Taking part in regular aerobic exercise will also provide many benefits, not the least of which is to help lower your stress and increase SHBG, which in turn helps prevent hair loss.
Of course, if you are worried about men's hair loss it's a good idea to start with some of these very basic life changes. Of course there are other therapies and treatments if the mens hair loss continues, though.
About half of those treated with topical drugs such as minoxidil or finasteride found some increase in hair growth after the use. The higher the concentration of the drug, the better the results.
There are also laser treatments where lasers are used to stimulate the scalp and help induce the follicles to begin hair growth, as well as transplant surgeries that can be done to move hair follicles from an area of your head that already has growth to those in which you are experiencing hair loss.
Probably the best approach to men's hair loss, however, is to embrace it! Times are very easy on bald and balding men these days, with many men shaving their hair very short or completely off, even if they aren't experiencing mens hair loss! It's a style, and one that may very well suit you!
If you're not the type to shave it all off, though, see your doctor before you decide to use any method other than lifestyle changes. He will know which might be the best option for you.
